The National Congress of American Indians has extended the application deadline for the National Tribal Youth Cabinet to April 12, 2013.  If your tribe or Indian organization has a youth council or executive level youth cabinet position, or is interested in developing a youth council or cabinet position, this is a training and networking opportunity supporting youth to lead in those positions.

To be considered for the National Tribal Youth Cabinet, complete an application and tribal nomination and email it to Heather Zenone at

Background Information

NCAI established the National Native Youth Training Collaborative to support Native youth and tribal efforts to foster leaders of tomorrow. The National Native Youth Training Collaborative has three annual goals:

  • 2013: NCAI is increasing the number of American Indian and Alaska Native youth who are prepared with foundations, knowledge, and skills to become national and tribal leaders. NCAI is providing training in financial literacy, Native youth resiliency, leadership, and policy development. Youth included in these training opportunities are the members of NCAI’s Youth Commission, participants in the Native Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the members of NCAI’s National Tribal Youth Cabinet, and participants in the National Intertribal Youth Summit.

  • 2014: The second year goal is to identify strategies for improving policy and data on issues of significance to American Indian and Alaska Native youth.

  • 2015: NCAI will host a Native youth virtual challenge to imagine community innovations and change.
