The Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS) program at American University offers American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian college and university students an opportunity to live in the nation’s capital while taking classes at American University and interning at government agencies or private firms. The program fosters future leaders of Indian Country through professional work experience, courses on federal Indian policy, and cultural and social activities with other participants from around the country. In addition, this opportunity is fully-funded by a scholarship and provides a small stipend to participants.

Currently, WINS is accepting applications for the fall semester from sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must be in good academic standing. Applicants must also provide documentation of tribal enrollment or descendant, and obtain a letter of recommendation from a member of their tribal nation, tribal council or tribal education department.
