The Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation is eager to welcome entries for the Young Native Writers Essay Contest, conducted this year in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian and the National Indian Education Association (NIEA).

The Young Native Writers Essay Contest is a writing contest for Native American high school students and is designed to encourage young Native Americans to write about their experiences, as a member of a Native American community and the culture that inspires them.

Five winners will each receive a $2,500 college scholarship and will also be awarded an all-expenses-paid “Scholar Week” trip to Washington, D.C., in July 2014. The trip will feature a personalized tour of the National Museum of the American Indian’s Cultural Resources Center, educational workshops and a tour of the U.S. Capitol. It will culminate with an honor ceremony at the museum.

The deadline is April 22, 2014. For more information, please click here.
