University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) students who are returning or who have returned to further their education after a minimum five-year gap in attendance at any college or university are eligible for the following two scholarships:


To qualify for this scholarship, a student must:

  1. Be admitted to a UAF bachelor’s degree program at the start of the fall 2014 semester
  2. Be pursuing a first bachelor’s degree
  3. Enroll at least half-time (6 credits) for the fall 2014 and spring 2015 semesters (may not be enrolled exclusively in online courses)
  4. Demonstrate academic promise and a commitment to obtaining their degree
  5. Return to or have returned to postsecondary education after a cumulative time away of 5 or more years (That is, you must have some previous college credits that are five or more years old, from any college or university. You must also have had gaps in your education that totaled at least five years, then have returned or plan to return to at least half-time enrollment.)
  6. Anticipate participation in the workforce for a significant period of time after graduation

Preference for this scholarship will be given to eligible students who:

  1. Are between 25 and 50 years old at the start of the fall 2014 semester
  2. Are returning Osher Reentry Scholars who have reapplied
  3. Are newly returning students

Award Amount: This scholarship will be a tuition waiver of up to $5,000 for at least 10 students and possibly several alternates for the 2014-15 school year.

Application Procedure: Write a 400 to 600 word essay on your inspiration to return to school. Submit the essay along with the rest of the Osher Scholarship application available online at
