2014 Elders & Youth Conference

Call for Alaska Native Language Speakers

The First Alaskans Institute (FAI) Elders & Youth Conference will take place October 20-22, 2014, at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The 2014 conference theme is: “Get Up! Stand Up!” Our cultures and languages, our songs and our dancing, will continue to help advance our vibrant and diverse peoples as long as we make it a priority to learn. This Call for Alaska Native Language Speakers is to ensure that this happens in the positive, engaging, interactive, and fun atmosphere of the annual Elders & Youth Conference. We are looking for people or organizations wishing to facilitate a two hour language session featuring the actual learning of Alaska Native languages, through language speaking, immersion, songs and dance, and/or innovative interactions such as games and activities. We are looking for at least one language speaker per region to lead these important language learning sessions. Please note the following:

-The actual language sessions offered will depend on whether we have a speaker to lead it by the submission deadline. So, please encourage speakers you know to respond to this call.

-First Alaskans Institute is not able to provide any financial compensation or support for presenters, but a small gift of appreciation will be provided after the sessions are complete.

-Submission of the following information is not a guarantee of selection. If selected, you will be contacted by the conference organizers to finalize your ability to present.
