Alaska Pacific University will offer a new needs-based grant program next school year that will shrink tuition to zero for some students in an effort to attract more young people and increase access to the Anchorage campus.

Starting in fall 2015, students eligible for a federal Pell grant — offered to low-income undergraduates — will also qualify for the university’s new aid program called the APU Promise Tuition Grant, said Carter Caywood, APU director of admissions.
